Contemporary Turns

How does one turn a 70’s classic track into a contemporary track? French producer Serge Colbert and artist U.G.O have done it wonderfully. Serge called me a few weeks back and said he has another track for me to put a mix on. Toto’s Africa, their follow up to “Change” featuring Sean Kingston and U.G.O. Serge wanted me to make it very special. Were not quite finished yet, as I will be going to France this summer to work and put on the final touches. After I heard the rough mix, I felt the track needed some dynamics and breaks. So with his blessing I created some space. I started with the loop, built some punchy kiks and backbeats , put in the vocals and then created some dimension, filtering some sounds, chopping others, creating beat breaks and so on.

Fun track,
