“Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” is scheduled for wide release next week. Again, Rolfe Kent & I traveled to the Skywalker / Lucas Ranch to record the San Francisco Symphony, mixing the score at Conway in LA.
I am developing a technique of orchestral recording that I recently used on this project. Dubbed “Imagery Mics” – two sets of wide LCR’s are placed, one in front of the strings, and another in the back by the brass. The results are astounding! 20% more width of the orchestra is achieved without using ANY close mics. We are STILL experiencing the size and depth of this particular stage using the new the technique.
– inspiration leads to experimentation, and apparently sometimes the reverse….
Posted below is an example of the score:[audio:https://gregtownley.com/blog_audio/GOGP.mp3|width=215]
