Writer Michael Xavier asked me to write music for a short story he was working on entitled “Ransom”. The original visual for this powerful piece was one still photograph of a woman that, over seven minutes, reveals a gun barrel. I chose to write a theme that was based on a repeating 4 bar pattern that builds in dynamics and expression over this fantastic seven minute story. His story has a certain cadence in the way he performed it, one challenge for me was to enhance the emotional impact using a series of meter changes as well as accelerando’s. I was thrilled with the music that came out of me that day, and so was Michael. Being moved by the piece and the composition he chose to re-shoot the visuals.
Have a look to the new cut.
